I’m a board certified medical doctor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, focusing on the issues affecting commercial truck drivers since 2009, and is a certified medical examiner listed in the US Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME).  My date of certification is 1/25/2013.  The NRCME mandated by Congress and started by the FMCSA requires that all medical examiners who wish to perform physical examinations for interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to be trained and certified in FMCSA physical qualification standards.   See https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/NRPublicUI/home.seam

The goal of this blog “dotmedicalexaminerblog.com ” is to be informative and hopefully helpful particularly to commercial drivers, motor carriers and others alike in the transportation industry who have questions that need clarification regarding DOT physical examination, rules and regulations.  I am not affiliated with any agency, government or otherwise, and the materials on this blog are derived from personal reading and interpretation of current DOT rules and regulations.   I will do my best to provide references and credit to other sources and authors, so that the reader can further investigate if interested.  The views expressed in this blog should in no way be construed as advice or recommendation.  I am in full time clinical practice in College Point, Queens N.Y. and it is my hope that “dotmedicalexaminerblog.com” will serve as a resource to help commercial truck drivers, motor carriers and others in the transportation industry navigate through the rules and regulations pertaining to driver medical qualification issues.

Over the years our services have expanded to include other safety sensitive workers in transportation from agencies other than the FMCSA such as merchant mariners, pilots and other aviation professionals from the US Coast Guard (USCG) Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) respectively.
